Definition
As an adjective, contemporary means belonging to the same time period, especially the present. As a noun, it refers to a person living at the same time as another.
Etymology
From Latin *contemporarius*, from *con-* "together" + *tempor-, tempus* "time." It literally means "together in time."
Kelly Says
When we call something "contemporary art," we really mean "art made in our shared now." Every era has its "contemporary" culture—so one day, our cutting-edge trends will look charmingly old‑fashioned.
