Etymology

From Sanskrit 'Āndhra,' the name of an ancient people and kingdom mentioned in texts dating back to the 2nd century BCE. The Andhra dynasty ruled much of southern and central India, and the name has been preserved through various historical periods to modern state formations.

Andhra Pradesh was once India's largest state until 2014, when it was divided to create Telangana as a separate state! The region is famous for its spicy cuisine, particularly the fiery Andhra pickle, and for being the birthplace of Kuchipudi, one of India's eight classical dance forms.
