Definition
A medical condition where a person is unable to sweat or sweats very little, which can be dangerous because the body can't cool itself down.
Etymology
From Ancient Greek 'an-' (not) + 'hidros' (sweat) + '-osis' (condition or disease). The term emerged in medical literature in the 19th century to name this dangerous thermoregulation disorder.
Kelly Says
Anhidrosis is why astronauts and people with certain nerve disorders need special cooling suits—without the ability to sweat, the body temperature can skyrocket and cause organ damage in minutes!
