Anhidrotic

/ˌænhɪˈdrɑtɪk/ adjective

Definition

Describing a substance, drug, or person that prevents or suppresses sweating.

Etymology

From Ancient Greek 'an-' (not) + 'hidros' (sweat) + '-otic' (adjective suffix). Built from the same root as anhidrosis, but used as an adjective to describe anything that inhibits perspiration.

Kelly Says

Anticholinergic drugs are anhidrotic, which is why people taking certain medications for allergies or asthma sometimes complain about feeling uncomfortably dry—their sweat glands have literally been told to shut down!
