Antiaristocracy

/ˌæntiˌærɪˈstɒkrəsi/ noun

Definition

Opposition to or a system opposed to aristocracy, the rule or dominance of a noble upper class.

Etymology

From anti- (against) + aristocracy (Greek aristos best + kratia rule). The term developed prominence during the Enlightenment and revolutionary periods when philosophers argued against inherited privilege and class systems.

Kelly Says

The U.S. Constitution was designed as an antiaristocracy document—it explicitly rejected kings and hereditary nobles, creating a system where you couldn't inherit political power just by being born wealthy!
