Antibias

/ˈæntɪˌbaɪəs/ adjective

Definition

Intended to prevent, reduce, or counteract bias, especially discrimination or prejudice against certain groups.

Etymology

From anti- (against) + bias (prejudice). Bias comes from Old French biais. Antibias emerged prominently in the 1960s-70s during civil rights and equal opportunity movements, becoming widespread in modern diversity initiatives.

Kelly Says

Antibias training became a huge industry after the 1970s, but research shows it's surprisingly hard to actually reduce bias this way! Our brains develop implicit biases automatically, so fighting them takes more than a one-time training session.
