Anticalcimine

/ˌæntiˈkælsɪmiːn/ adjective

Definition

Resistant to or preventing the application or effects of calcimine, a whitewashing paint made from chalk and glue.

Etymology

From anti- (against) + calcimine, from Latin calx (lime) + -mine (a suffix of uncertain origin, possibly from French). Calcimine was a common, inexpensive wall coating from the 19th-early 20th centuries.

Kelly Says

Before latex paint, calcimine was the go-to cheap wall finish, but it was terrible because it would rub off on your clothes and furniture—so 'anticalcimine' surfaces were actually a huge quality improvement.
