An ancient city in modern-day Turkey that was a major center of early Christianity. Also refers to various cities named after the original Antioch.
Etymology
From Greek 'Antiocheia', named after Antiochus, a Seleucid king. The name means 'opposite' or 'rival,' possibly referring to its position as a rival to other major cities.

Antioch was where followers of Jesus were first called 'Christians' - it's literally the birthplace of Christian identity as a distinct religion. The city was so cosmopolitan and influential that multiple other cities were named after it, spreading its legacy across continents.
