Definition
The quality or state of being opposite to or in contrast with a type or typical form.
Etymology
From anti- (against, opposite) + -typy (from Greek typos, type). This noun form emerged in theological discourse to discuss the relationship between types and their opposites.
Kelly Says
Theologians used 'antitypy' to explain how Christ represented the opposite or fulfilment of Old Testament types—it's an elegant way to talk about how something can be both connected to and completely different from what came before.
