Definition
A stone or calcified deposit that forms inside the aorta, the main artery carrying blood from the heart.
Etymology
From Greek 'aorta' (the main artery) combined with 'lithos' (stone). This medical term was coined as doctors encountered and studied calcium deposits in aortic tissue during the 19th and 20th centuries.
