Asset

/ˈæset/ noun

Definition

An asset is something valuable that you own or can use, such as money, property, skills, or qualities that help you succeed.

Etymology

The word comes from Anglo-French *assetz*, from Old French *asez* meaning 'enough' or 'sufficient'. It originally meant 'enough property to pay debts' and later came to mean any valuable item or advantage.

Kelly Says

It’s striking that *asset* comes from the idea of 'enoughness'—having what you need to cover your risks. Thinking of your talents and relationships as assets changes how you see yourself: you start noticing value you already carry.
