Astond

/əˈstɒnd/ verb

Definition

An archaic word meaning to stun, stupefy, or astonish someone completely.

Etymology

From Old English, possibly related to Old Norse 'stund' (a short time, blow, or daze). The word fell out of use by the 17th century, replaced by 'astonish' which evolved from the same root.

Kelly Says

This word is the great-great-grandfather of 'astonish'—if you could time-travel to Middle English and use 'astond,' people would understand you perfectly, even though nobody says it today.
