Definition
An irrational fear of oneself or one's own voice and thoughts.
Etymology
From Greek 'auto-' (self) and 'phobos' (fear). This rare psychological term emerged in late 19th-century medical literature to describe cases where patients experienced extreme anxiety about their own mental processes or voice.
Kelly Says
This word is so obscure that even most psychologists have never heard it—yet it perfectly captures a real phenomenon where people become anxious listening to recordings of themselves, which is surprisingly common!
