Definition
In computing and data processing, an automatic or self-initiated output operation where a system generates results without manual input.
Etymology
Compound word from 'auto-' (self) and 'put' (as in 'output'). Emerged in the 1960s-70s computer science terminology as systems became more automated and programmable.
Kelly Says
Think of it as your phone automatically backing up your photos—'autoput' is the technical term for when a computer system decides to send data somewhere all on its own without asking permission first.
