Bandits

/ˈbæn.dɪts/ noun

Definition

Criminals who work in organized groups to rob people, especially on roads or in wild areas.

Etymology

From Italian 'bandito' meaning outlaw or banished person, derived from 'bando' meaning a decree or ban. Outlaws were literally people banned from society.

Kelly Says

Bandits are 'banned-itos'—literally people thrown out of society—which is why Robin Hood became a folk hero: he was a bandit, but the people he robbed were richer and more powerful, so he became legendary!
