Beyond

/bɪˈjɑnd/ preposition

Definition

Beyond means farther than or outside the limits of something. It can refer to physical distance or to ideas that are outside what is normal or understandable.

Etymology

From Old English “begeondan,” meaning “on the farther side of.” It combines “be-” (by) and “geond” (yonder, over there).

Kelly Says

“Beyond” is one of English’s favorite words for stretching limits: beyond belief, beyond repair, beyond control. It quietly suggests there is a border—and whatever you’re talking about has crossed it.
