Bibliophobe

/ˈbɪbliəfoʊb/ noun

Definition

A person who dislikes, fears, or avoids books; someone who has little interest in reading or books as objects.

Etymology

From Greek biblio- (book) and -phobe (one who fears or dislikes, from phobos 'fear'). This humorous but rarely used term emerged as a playful opposite to bibliophile.

Kelly Says

Bibliophobes are the forgotten minority in literary culture—they might explain that books are heavy, slow compared to screens, or that they simply have no interest in reading, making them the ultimate outsiders in book-lover communities.
