Blankbook

/ˈblæŋkbʊk/ noun

Definition

A book with blank pages inside, with no printed text, used for writing, sketching, or record-keeping.

Etymology

From blank (empty or unfilled) plus book. Blank comes from Old French blanc meaning 'white' or 'empty.' These have been called 'blank books' since at least the 1600s as a contrast to printed books.

Kelly Says

Blank books are transformative objects—Leonardo da Vinci filled them with sketches and notes, Anne Frank's diary was a blank book that became history, and today millions of people use them for journaling and art.
