Bodle

/ˈbɒdəl/ noun

Definition

A small copper coin formerly used in Scotland, of very low value; something of little worth or a trifle.

Etymology

From Scots Gaelic or Dutch origin, possibly related to Botley or a place name. The coin was minted in Scotland from the 16th century onward and became proverbial for worthlessness.

Kelly Says

Scottish literature is full of complaints about bodles—they were the medieval equivalent of pennies, so small and worthless that saying you didn't give a bodle meant you didn't care at all, much like modern 'I don't give a damn.'
