Definition
A borough in southeast London, England, known for its suburban character and shopping areas.
Etymology
Named after the Old English 'bromleag' meaning 'woodland clearing where broom grows,' from 'brom' (broom plant) and 'leah' (clearing, meadow). The area was historically characterized by heathland where broom shrubs flourished.
Kelly Says
Bromley holds the distinction of being the largest London borough by area, yet maintains a distinctly suburban feel that makes many residents feel they're living in Kent rather than London. The town center features one of the largest shopping complexes in Southeast England, making it a retail destination that draws visitors from across the region.
