Definition
Heavy with burden; difficult to carry or manage; oppressive.
Etymology
From 'burden' plus the Latin-derived suffix '-ous,' which creates adjectives meaning 'full of' or 'characterized by.' This is an older or more poetic form than 'burdensome.'
Kelly Says
Burdenous is a rare alternative to 'burdensome'—both mean the same thing, but 'burdenous' shows how English sometimes has multiple adjective forms competing, and 'burdensome' simply won the popularity contest!
