Chaos

/ˈkeɪ.ɒs/ noun

Definition

Chaos is a state of complete confusion and lack of order. It describes situations where things seem random, messy, or out of control.

Etymology

From Latin 'chaos', from Greek 'khaos' meaning 'abyss' or 'gaping void', the empty space before the world was formed in myth. It later came to mean total disorder.

Kelly Says

Originally, chaos was not just mess—it was the *primordial gap* before anything existed. So when you say your room is 'chaos', you’re jokingly comparing your laundry pile to the state of the universe before creation.
