Chelidonic

/ˌkɛlɪˈdɑnɪk/ adjective

Definition

Relating to chelidonic acid, a naturally occurring organic acid found especially in plants of the celandine family.

Etymology

From Chelidonium (greater celandine plant name) derived from Greek 'chelidon' (swallow), plus '-ic' making it an adjective. The plant was named after the swallow because it supposedly blooms when swallows arrive.

Kelly Says

Greater celandine is one of the few plants that produces a distinctive yellow latex, and chelidonic acid research has revealed anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties that medieval herbalists could never have measured but somehow empirically knew worked!
