Etymology
From 'chesty' (adjective) with the noun-forming suffix '-ness,' which converts adjectives into abstract nouns describing their qualities. This is one of the most productive word-formation patterns in English.

'-Ness' is the most powerful suffix in English because you can add it to almost any adjective and create a noun for that quality—'chestiness' captures the whole concept of being puffed up or proud in a single, useful word.
