Definition
To move or excite together; to cause commotion or agitation in something or someone.
Etymology
From Latin 'commovere,' composed of 'com-' (together) and 'movere' (to move). The English verb preserves the original Latin sense of collective or shared movement or emotion.
Kelly Says
This verb is almost completely obsolete in modern English, but it's fascinating because it shows how 'move' originally meant physical motion—the emotional meaning came later, so 'commove' is literally 'to move together' in the physical sense.
