Modern

/ˈmɑːdərn/ adjective

Definition

Modern describes things that belong to the present time or to recent times, especially when they differ from what was done in the past. It can refer to technology, art, ideas, or ways of living.

Etymology

From Late Latin “modernus,” meaning “of today,” from “modo,” “just now, recently.” It originally contrasted the ‘now’ with the ancient or classical past.

Kelly Says

Every generation thinks it’s modern, but the word itself just means ‘of right now.’ What counts as modern keeps sliding forward, so your cutting-edge gadget will one day be someone else’s antique.
