Correlations

/ˌkɒrɪˈleɪʃənz/ noun

Definition

Plural of correlation; the mutual relationships or connections between two or more things that tend to occur together.

Etymology

From Latin correlatio, combining co- (together) and relation (bringing together). The statistical meaning became dominant in the late 19th century with the development of biometrics and quantitative research.

Kelly Says

Correlations are the foundation of everything from medicine (does this drug work?) to marketing (what makes people buy?)—but the number one mistake is assuming correlation means one thing *caused* the other.
