Countertripping

/ˌkaʊntərˈtrɪpɪŋ/ verb

Definition

The act of causing someone to stumble or lose balance in response to them trying to trip you, or moving with light, opposing steps.

Etymology

From counter- + tripping. Tripping comes from Old English trepp- meaning 'to step.' Countertripping describes reciprocal or opposing tripping actions.

Kelly Says

In martial arts, countertripping is a judo principle—rather than resisting an opponent's throw, you flow with it and use their momentum against them, turning their attack into their downfall.
