Definition
The quality of being clever and cunning, especially in a tricky or deceptive way.
Etymology
From 'crafty' with the abstract noun suffix '-ness,' which turns adjectives into nouns describing their qualities. The '-ness' suffix dates to Old English and is one of English's most productive word-formation tools.
Kelly Says
Craftiness is one of those nouns that's almost always used negatively (unlike 'friendliness' or 'kindness'), which tells us that English speakers associate cunning with suspicion rather than admiration.
