Definition
The final part of a story in which all loose ends are tied up and the outcome is revealed; the resolution following the climax.
Etymology
From French 'dénouement' (untying), from 'dénouer' (to untie) — 'dé-' (un-) + 'nouer' (to tie/knot). A story is a knot, and the denouement UNTIES it.
Kelly Says
A story is a KNOT and the ending UNTIES it! That's literally what dénouement means! All those tangled plot threads finally come loose. The French see every story as a rope you tie tighter and tighter until — pop! — it's all undone! 🪢
