Definition
The act of expressing strong disapproval, regret, or sorrow; a lamenting or bewailing.
Etymology
From Latin deploratio, the noun form of deplorare. The -tion suffix comes from Latin -tio, forming nouns from verbs. This is the action-noun corresponding to the verb deplore.
Kelly Says
Deploration is a somewhat formal word today, but it was common in 18th-century literature where people had elaborate nouns for emotional expressions—we've since simplified our vocabulary but lost some of that emotional precision.
