Desmoid

/ˈdɛzmoɪd/ adjective

Definition

Resembling or relating to a ligament or fibrous tissue, or describing a type of tumor made of connective tissue.

Etymology

From Greek 'desmos' (bond, ligament) + '-oid' (resembling). The suffix '-oid' became a standard way to describe things that look like or are similar to something else in medical terminology.

Kelly Says

Desmoid tumors are especially interesting because they're not cancerous but they grow aggressively and can come back after removal—they're like the body's rebellious connective tissue that forgot to stop dividing.
