Direction

/dəˈrɛkʃən/ noun

Definition

Direction is the path or course along which something moves, points, or faces. It can also mean instructions that tell someone what to do or how to do something.

Etymology

From Latin 'directio' meaning 'a setting straight, guidance', from 'dirigere' meaning 'to set straight, guide'. The idea of both physical path and guidance grew from this sense of 'making something straight'.

Kelly Says

The same word covers both where you’re going and how to get there—direction as a path and as instructions. That’s why a movie 'director' is literally the person who gives the direction.
