Definition
Sleeping or in a dormant state; characterized by sleep or temporary inactivity.
Etymology
From Latin dormientem (sleeping), present participle of dormire. This learned term was primarily used in medieval and Renaissance philosophical texts to describe sleeping states.
Kelly Says
Dormient is the snooty Latin-derived cousin of 'dormant'—philosophers loved this word when describing the slumbering states of nature and soul!
