Definition
Based on or relating to the number 12; a number system that uses 12 as its base instead of 10.
Etymology
From Latin 'duodecim' (twelve) + '-al' (relating to). Unlike our decimal system which is base-10, a duodecimal system would be base-12, making it more divisible by many small numbers.
Kelly Says
The Babylonians used a base-60 number system 5,000 years ago, and we still use their duodecimal thinking today—there are 12 months, 12 hours on a clock face, and 12 inches in a foot! Some mathematicians argue base-12 is actually superior to base-10 because 12 divides evenly by 2, 3, 4, and 6, while 10 only divides by 2 and 5.
