Etymology
From Greek 'elasmo-' (plate) and 'ther' (beast), named for the distinctive plate-like structure of its grinding teeth used for processing tough vegetation.

The elasmothere was essentially a weird rhinoceros with a horn shaped like a shovel and teeth perfectly designed for eating tough grass—it roamed ice-age Eurasia before going extinct about 50,000 years ago.
