Definition
The state of being chained or bound; confinement or restriction, either literal or metaphorical.
Etymology
From enchain + -ment (suffix forming nouns from verbs). This word emerged to describe the condition or result of being enchained, whether physically or in an abstract sense.
Kelly Says
Romantic poets absolutely loved 'enchainment' because it let them discuss emotional and spiritual bondage with the weight of physical imprisonment—they could make love sound like a dungeon and make it sound beautiful at the same time.
