Entoplasm

/ˈɛntəplæzəm/ noun

Definition

The inner part of the cytoplasm of a cell, also called endoplasm, which is more fluid than the outer layer.

Etymology

Greek 'entos' (within) + 'plasma' (molded substance). Coined in 19th-century cell biology to distinguish the different layers within the cytoplasm.

Kelly Says

Cells have layers like an onion—the thick outer layer (ectoplasm) moves and changes shape, while the inner liquid entoplasm contains the nucleus and keeps everything running.
