Definition
The act or process of blowing out or forcefully expelling air from the lungs.
Etymology
From Latin ex- (out) + sufflare (to blow) + -tion (noun suffix). This is the noun form of exsufflate, describing the action of forceful exhalation.
Kelly Says
Anaesthesiologists use this term during procedures—they need to know the patient's exsufflation rate to understand how quickly they can clear their airway after anesthesia.
