A hypothetical or theoretical compound or radical containing iron and cyanide groups that might form ferrocyanides, studied in historical chemistry.
Etymology
From 'ferro-' (iron) + 'cyano-' (cyanide) + '-gen' (Greek 'genos' meaning to produce or generate). This term emerged in 19th-century chemistry theory when scientists were trying to explain how iron-cyanide compounds were formed.
