Filagree

/ˈfɪləɡriː/ noun

Definition

Delicate ornamental work made of fine gold or silver threads, often twisted into elaborate patterns; also spelled filigree.

Etymology

From French filigrane, from Italian filigrana, from Latin filum (thread) + granum (grain). Originally described fine threadwork that looked like tiny grains.

Kelly Says

Filagree is so delicate that artisans work with jeweler's tools under magnification — imagine twisting gold thinner than human hair into roses and scrolls, all by hand.
