Definition
A genus of small annual plants in the family Brassicaceae, native to North America, with tiny white flowers.
Etymology
Named after the botanist Johann Floerke by fellow botanist Heinrich Schrader in the early 19th century; a taxonomic Latin name.
Kelly Says
Plant names often honor dead botanists—Floerkea was named after Johann Floerke to give him a kind of botanical immortality, though the plant itself is so tiny most people never notice it!
