Graham

/ˈɡreɪəm/ noun

Definition

A surname of Scottish origin, or referring to graham flour/crackers made from whole wheat. Graham crackers are sweet crackers often used in s'mores.

Etymology

From Scottish 'Grahame', meaning 'gravelly homestead' from Old English 'grǣġ' (grey) and 'hām' (home). Graham flour was named after Sylvester Graham, a 19th-century dietary reformer.

Kelly Says

Sylvester Graham invented graham flour as part of his health crusade against refined foods and moral corruption - he believed whole grains would curb sinful desires! His graham crackers were originally intended as health food, quite different from today's sweet treats.
