Definition
To appear as a ghost or to visit a place regularly as a spirit; or to persistently remain in someone's thoughts.
Etymology
From Old French 'hanter,' possibly from Old Norse 'heimta' (to pursue or fetch). The word carries ambiguity: it can mean ghosts literally 'frequent' places or emotions metaphorically 'frequent' the mind.
Kelly Says
The word 'haunt' beautifully bridges physical and emotional worlds—a ghost haunts a castle AND a bad memory haunts your mind. Both suggest something keeps returning, uninvited, despite your wish for it to leave!
