Etymology
From Greek 'hexakosio' (six hundred) + 'theos' (god) + '-ism' (system or practice). This extremely rare word combines Greek numerical and religious terminology to describe an impossibly specific theological system.

This word might be the most obscure in English—it appears in only a handful of historical dictionaries. It was likely coined by scholars attempting to classify ancient polytheistic religions with absurd precision, when in reality ancient religions were far more fluid in deity counts.
