In chemistry, a ring-shaped molecule that contains atoms of two or more different elements, usually including nitrogen, oxygen, or sulfur along with carbon.
Etymology
From Greek hetero- (different) and Latin cyclus (circle/ring), describing ring structures composed of different types of atoms.
