Hilly

/ˈhɪli/ adjective

Definition

Having many hills; characterized by uneven terrain with numerous elevated areas and slopes.

Etymology

From Old English hyll meaning 'hill' plus the suffix -y. The root comes from Proto-Germanic hulni-, possibly related to Latin collis 'hill' and ultimately from Proto-Indo-European kel- meaning 'to be prominent.'

Kelly Says

Hills have shaped human civilization in profound ways - they've determined trade routes, city locations, and military strategies. The simple adjective 'hilly' encapsulates landscapes that have influenced everything from architecture (steep roofs in hilly regions) to culture (hill stations in colonial India).
