Mammoth

/ˈmæməθ/ adjective

Definition

Extremely large or impressive in size; enormous.

Etymology

From Russian "mamant" and possibly Khanty language sources, referring to the extinct woolly mammoth. The animal became famous when frozen remains were discovered, and 'mammoth' became synonymous with 'huge.'

Kelly Says

Woolly mammoths survived until just 4,000 years ago on a tiny Arctic island—they died out after humans arrived, and we have their actual preserved hair and tissue, making them one of our newest 'fossils!'
