Migrating

/ˈmaɪˌɡreɪtɪŋ/ verb

Definition

Moving from one place to another, especially seasonally or periodically. In computing, transferring data or programs from one system to another.

Etymology

From Latin 'migratus,' past participle of 'migrare' meaning to move from one place to another. The word entered English in the 17th century, initially describing human movement, later extended to animals and abstract concepts.

Kelly Says

Arctic terns have the longest migration of any animal, flying roughly 44,000 miles annually from Arctic to Antarctic and back - equivalent to circling the Earth twice. In the tech world, data migration is often the most stressful part of any system upgrade, as one small error can cause massive data loss.
