Neutrality

/nuːˈtrælɪti/ or /njuːˈtrælɪti/ noun

Definition

The state of not supporting or helping either side in a disagreement or war. It can also refer to a lack of strong features or opinions in general.

Etymology

From Middle French 'neutralité', from Medieval Latin 'neutralitas', based on Latin 'neuter' meaning 'neither of two'. It first became important in discussions of war and international law.

Kelly Says

Neutrality can be a survival strategy for countries that would be crushed by choosing a side. On the personal level, claiming 'I’m neutral' can protect you—or allow unfairness to continue unchallenged.
